IM box freezing up

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to stop my IM box from
randomly freezing up? I'll be "talking" to someone and for some reason
the whole IM box goes white and wont let me respond or receive the
message. It finally will come in, but it seems to take minutes and is
very annoying. This is a new problem and really seemed to start after
downloading the new Norton about two weeks ago.

Downloading the new Norton? Or installing some new Norton produced product
of some sort?
What IM box? If there was only *one* instant messenger client out there and
only *one* version of that *one* client - we'd know as much as you do from
your description... =)
