I AM ABOUT TO BUY A NEW LAPTOP OFF AMAZON.COM, IT IS WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION.
I HAVE BEEN LED TO BELIEVE, THAT APPARENTLY NOWADAYS WHEN YOU BUY COMPUTERS
ETC., YOU HAVE TO BUY THE HARDWARE FOR IT AS WELL, MEANING MICROSOFT WORD,
PUBLISHER ETC. WILL I GET THESE BASIC FEATURES?

One can only hope that your new computer will have a caps lock key that
is NOT STUCK IN THE ON POSITION AS YOURS APPEARS TO BE NOW. It makes it
seem as if you're shouting everything.

You're talking about software, not hardware, when you speak of Word,
Publisher etc. And yes, usually you have to buy it separately. Sometimes
a retail seller like Dell or CompUSA will bundle certain software with a
computer, but this is becoming more and more rare.

This is not a FrontPage question. Find someone who can explain all this to
you.

This is a FrontPage newsgroup, not Windows XP.
But, MS Word, Publisher, etc., are *not* hardware, they are software.

MS Office programs are *not* part of the Windows Operating System.
Sometimes manufacturers bundle office programs with the computer, but only
if they choose to do so. Otherwise, you would purchase them separately.

You usually don't get the Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) with
the basic loading disc. I believe you have to use the Microsoft Office
disc. That's what happened to my laptop, so I assume it happens with
others as well...but I would ask Microsoft.
