How much do you want to spend?
Laptops are not great for playing games with unless you get a good graphics card. I confident are you using a PC?

Natasha,

What kind of sims, and how imortant it is to you. You need to elaborate on that a bit. Other needs you specify, can be accomplished with any laptop.

The quality of laptop will be directly proportional to the amount of money you are willing to spend.

The first rule when asking for advise is to clearly state your budget, without knowing the budget, sane advice cannot be given by anyone.

I'm a woman as well.

To be honest, it really hasn't helped a great deal.

But that may be down to the fact that I weigh 17 stone and have a face akin to a bulldog chewing a wasp.

But hey, I'm a woman, got my Anthony & The Johnsons CD album to prove it :)

Just ask Anthony.

(are you really a woman?)

Sorry, I should have said my budget..

I really dont want to spend more than £500... is it at all possible to get a decent laptop for this?! Maybe secondhand....? ebay... yes yes

I don't have a PC either (not my own)..

I want to play all the sims installations, and so they work well too, not slow.

And I think I need XP don't I... is this included with laptops?

Thanks guys, and lady:thumb:

Try this page and reduce the warranty to a minimum, it should work out at £429 for reasonable laptop :)

Dell, then Home then put in the code 305-N04136 in the e-code section in the middle of the page :) You'll need to reduce the warranty to the minimum to get that price though (90 days C&R + 1 year normal)

The specs are:

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 745A (1.8GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 400MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition, SP2
512MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x256)
40GB (5.400rpm) Hard Drive
15.4inch WXGA (1280x800) LCD Panel
8X DVD+/-RW with Software (No Media)
Intel® ProWireless 2200 802.11b/g Mini PCI Wireless LAN Card

Which is pretty good for a sub-£500 laptop :thumb:

Should be fine for the net, ipod and playing the sims 1/2 :) (although the sims 2 would run better on a faster machine though).

Ian's good at this stuff, listen to him.

He doesn't realise it yet but he's actually carrying my love child.

I didn't realise it until I stepped outside just now and looked at the stars.

It's all true.

(how much longer can I keep this up.... )

thanks for recommending these but I am really not sure what all that stuff means! Is it good? What do I need to get to play games so they are fast? And can someone tell me how to get online, I dont have any idea where to even start.. do I need a phone line?

the bits that work

OK here's the run down on it all:
Intel® Celeron® M Processor 380 (1.60 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 400 MHz FSB)
This is the main bit that does all the job's, speed is important so 1.6GHz is ok

Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition, SP2
This is the operating system with service pack 2 so all should be up to date
You need the operating system to make the processor work/run

512MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x256)
This is use to help the processor run programs 2x256 = 512MB of RAM, that ok.

40GB (5.400rpm) Hard Drive
The Hard Drive will store all the software, applications and games
5,400rpm is the speed the hard drive spins at, more rpm the quicker it reads data.

14.1inch WXGA (1280x800) LCD Panel
The size of the screen, the bigger in inch's the better (bit like in real life)

8X DVD+/-RW with Software (No Media)
So you can read DVD's x8 speed is what data on the disc is read at, also reads CD's. The DVD+/- RW = you can copy to a blank dvd-r (which you use once) or a DVD-RW disc that you can use many times. The +/- means it reads both DVD formats ( bit like with video, you got vhs & betamax)

Dell™ Wireless 1370 802.11b/g Mini PCI Card
You can use it out & about at cafes etc as it hasa wireless card.

Hope this help's, not to good at explaining things in layman terms, getting to be to much of a techie geek:D
