I need some help here. I just created a home network (wired) for my two computers - a SONY VAIO desktop and A SONY VAIO laptop. Both are running Windows XP home. I use a DSL internet connection. I installed a Netgear 4 port router/gateway. The shared internet connection works fine for both computers. I ran the XP Network wizard and I don't seem to have one - and I am sure it's me.

The problem seems to be with my desktop/host. The lap top shows both computers on the workgroup but cannot access the desktop - I get an error message when I try to view the desktop : "Home (my workgroup name) is not accessible. You may not have permission...contact the administrator" The desktop gives me the same message with the added words "List of servers on this workgroup is not currently available"

What did (or didn't) I do? What can I do? HELP

Lee,

Sounds like a master browser problem. Make sure ICF is disabled on
both computers. Un install any third party firewalls.

If that doesn't help, post ipconfig for both computers. Start - Run -
"ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad -
copy and paste into your next post.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
