i'm a lady in distress can you help.........

please can ANYONE help a lady in distress.. where do i
start.. my norton wont do virus scan it stops and
freezes .then when x.p comes on it tells me there is
problems with my disc or whatever it is and it needs
scanning but it doesnt rectyfy it when it scans .. now i
have probs on it but cant make them better.. when i had
m.e version norton scanned the disks and fixed them but
now it just says another device has overrided it and has
control not my norton ... i would prefer the norton to do
it it made it all better before now xp is doing it it or
not doing it i find i'm in a mess.. why does norton
freeze before it finishes a virus check ... does any of
this make any sense to anyone. please please can someone
help this lady????? thank you all...

This is a Norton, not a Microsoft/XP issue. Contact Symantec.
