Illustrator CS Freezes

I installed Illustrator CS2 on Home Premium.
But everytime I launch the program - it freezes immediately after the splash
screen. The only way to quit the program is through task manager.
Graphic card is upgraded and new. Everything else on the computer works fine
... including the previous version of Illustrator. Adobe tried to help. They
think the next screen that comes up is hidden somewhere.
Has anyone seen this behavior in anything?
 
First thing I tried.
There is a "ghost" image of the invisible screen after I pull up and close
i-explorer.
