illegal operation error msgs

Have two problems, besides being computer illiterate.
Receiving IE illegal operation error messages on
everything. I'm able to go to the web. I have Windows 98.
In addition, I was receiving AOL Companion errors. I
uninstalled AOL. Reloaded Windows 98. Re-installed AOL. I
no longer receive the AOL error.

1. Now, in addition to IE errors, I receive a "service
profile error and asking me to reload. How do I do that?
2. How do I fix IE. I was unable to re-load IE from the
web and re-install. I have Internet Explorer 6 Service
Pack 1.
