Illegal downloaders 'face UK ban'

At the end of the day, the proposals give a 'three strikes and your out' type approach which isn't unreasonable. I'm not keep on it myself, but I don't doubt its effectiveness. I doubt it will actually come into force because of problems with privacy, but it slowly turns the screw on the anti-piracy message.

It'll never work..Its been likened to the royal mail opening and checking every letter and parcel that goes through! It could never happen..Its not viable financially or otherwise..

Total waste of time and would never stop the big boys which are who they are after..Just the casual downloader..These people will never learn

I'm assuming, michael555, you're not a musician?

I know quite a few musicians who make their living from making music.

I can tell you they donwnload stuff illegally just to check it out.

The difference here maybe - and this goes for me as well - is if they like they buy.

Do you, michael555? Answer me.

As for these Goverment plans, it's very likely unenforcable.

These big corporate record companies - have any of them actually gone out of business yet as a result of illegal downloads?

Well, have they?

Sometimes, I think to myself that sharing music is a good way to promote sales.

I may be wrong but all I know is that if I like something and want it enough, I will buy it.

I'm not going to promote your cause michael555, but I will say that taking the reasonable line would seem to be the best way to go.

This will never work the way there going about it.

People will download mp3,video,etcs long as there are p2p site up.

I have not seen many big company going out of business.

It would help the goverment if tax on music, dvd went down in price.

But putting the blame on isp is wrong and does,nt help the BPI.

I to think it is a waste of time you hardly ever see a poor artist ,the money they make is stupid then where do it go ? on drugs etc , i have no time for these poor people . If they want to stop down loads what about all the blasted PORN we get no one stop that do they ? get rid of all the porn sites i say and these viagra sites which are bombarding my mail.

That's a far reaching statement!
I dont think those that write the songs get that much in royalties, as for making stupid money, it is after all their job.

There are a lot of poor artisits out there and they do have to make a living .

But .

When you get stars like Madona getting 40 million pound contracts and music CDs costing £15 or so then my sympathy for the companies who claim to loose millions of pounds is non existent .

The actual cost of making and distributing a music CD and paying the artist a reasonable amount and leaving the companies a healthy profit wpould probably be about £5 or £6 .

If the greedy companies who have been ripping us , the public of for decades , now see their profit margins lower slightly then tough luck to them , my heart bleeds for them .

Also if you look at the Canadian studies into this , they show that illegal downloads are not impacting on profits at all but may even be helping profits to rise a little . As the illegal downloads are helping to promote not so well known artists sell more copies of their cds .

If the great and mighty (read money grubbing selfish here if you prefer) record companies had acted in a decent manner to us the public over the years then we the public may have been more inclined to behave in a decent manner towards them .
