iis snap-in

there is no error message..
it does nothing


That's not enough information to help with. What happens when you try
(exact error message if any)? Are you running XP Pro or XP Home (IIS is not
supported on Home)?

iis snap in was being launched from shortcut..
I believe problem is resolved...seems to be associated with installing
update 821557

a day and several recoveries later, i'm back to working state

I guess we are going to have to drag this out one question at a time.

What version of XP do you have?

Have you actually installed IIS?
