Hi, this is a quick question in regards to setting up a
small scale web server on my computer.

What I currently have is a Cable connection 1mbps, a
computer that never gets turned off and aload of friends
that want some webspace for free. ergo I am willing to
step in and tie up some loose ends. However I don't have
much idea on how to set up IIS on Windows XP (Pro). I have
a DHCP allocated IP address, however Im not really
interested in using a Domain, the IP address will be fine.
sorry if this is not very coherent.

Thanks for any help at all

First thing you should do before you go to a lot of things that could be a
complete waste of time is check with the cable company to see if they will
allow you to host a webserver. Most cable companies do not and it against
their terms of service. Doing so against their ToS will simply get your
account terminated.

If they do allow you to, then see:

Remember that you PC will be on 24/7 and you will be letting strangers into
your PC. Be sure you research the security options very carefully.

Also be aware that the IIS 5.1 included in XP Pro will only allow 10
similtaneous connections and a single website (with multiple subwebs).. it
is really only suitable as a testing environment.

For unlimited websites and unlimited connections, it's Windows 2003 Server
family you need to look at.
