Greetings!

I am currently unemployed. In early December, we thought my wife was going
to get a job, so she approved my purchase of a modern computer that I could
run the .Net environment on and begin teaching myself. I had to keep cost
way down, so I chose the XP Home operating system. I installed Visual
Studio .Net 2002 and began porting a program I had written in VB6. I had
hoped to convert it to a Web application using ASP.Net as the next stage in
my self-training. But when I started reading about ASP.Net, I was dismayed
to learn that if I don't have XP Pro, I don't have IIS, and I can't run
ASP.Net pages. I won't have the money to upgrade to Pro until I get a job.

I just found a package of disks I got a couple years ago at a Microsoft
seminar. They included final beta versions of Everett and its MSDN disks,
and a "Microsoft Windows .Net Server 2003 Release Candidate 2 Developer
Kit". The inside of the kit's case says that it includes IIS. By any wild
chance, can this be installed on top of my XP Home without breaking
anything, giving me a server that can handle ASP.Net?

Thanks!

Rob

Rob,

win2k3 is a server os and the IIS is way different as compared to XPs IIS
what i would say is do a side by side install (ie... install it in a
seperate partition)
or take out your xp home after taking a backup and just intall win2k3.. its
really nice... and lot of fun configuring it.

Thanks, Ken! I already have WebMatrix. I guess I just didn't know what I
had!
