IIS not working on XP page just hangs

I have installed IIS and everything appears to be
working. However, when I try to view a page in the
browser, it just hangs. I have even tried to bring up an
html file within my default page and that doesn't work.

I have been fighting with this for three weeks and am
very frustrated. I had some gurus at work look at it and
they couldn't find the problem. Help! I need to learn
ASP.
