Trying to install XP pro on my test box that had Linux. Popped the Cmos
battery to clear Bios and have a question.
Epox 8RDA+ .2
Antec 350 W case
1G 2700 crucial ram
120 IBM Hitachi disc
52x32x52 CD
AMD 2400 CPU
ASUS 8x -Ti4200 VGA
1. When I reset the battery, do all of the drivers need to be reloaded
as if Its a new build? I'm a 77 year old senior who's only been involved
with this new hobby a couple of years and can be pretty dumb upon
occasions. graino

The drivers really have nothing to do with the BIOS or the CMOS battery --
they are a function of the operating system and since you are changing from
Linux to XP the drivers will need to change. Good news is that, if you have
"plain vanilla" hardware, the drivers will probably already be on the XP
disc and will install automatically during the install. Just check to see if
your VGA and MB came with drivers and be prepared to install them as needed.
BTW, it is common to have both XP and Linux on your machine at the same time
although it is generally easier to start with an XP machine and then add the
Linux afterward. Your Linux distro's installation instructions should have
information about dual boot and whatever boot manager it is using.

No.

The BIOS is an area where YOU tell the COMPUTER what kind of equipment
you have attached. On a modern motherboard, most of this is done
automatically now...and then the settings are saved by way of the
battery.

If you had a very old motherboard, you might have had to go into the
BIOS and re-enter/pick the specs for your hardware.

No problem. Trust me...age has nothing to do with being dumb
sometimes! lol

Good luck.

Have a nice week...
