If the application is open, why does a .pps opens as .ppt?

In our environment I am unable to place icons on a desktop and we do not have any type of Windows Explorer-type capability. I can only see .ppt files when the PowerPoint application is open. So when I save a .ppt as a .pps, it always opens as a .ppt. We are trying to make it easy for outside instructors to open their programs without having to navigate (although it is easy) and we don't want the .ppts changed inadvertently. Any help?

Hi Susan,

Check with your System Administrators. It sound like
they've set some Security settings on your PCs.
