Has anyone used a parallel-to-usb cable successfully to get their old
printer to work. I am using an HP 895cxi printer. The parallel port on my
computer's MOBO is bad and I am wondering if the usb connection will work
for me with the right cable even if the parallel port is faulty.

Thanks!

The HP 895 is supposed to have both parallel and USB conections so you
shouldn't have to use a parallel-USB cable, just a normal USB printer
cable. Check the back of the printer for the USB socket.

You are absolutely correct. Thanks for your help. That usb connection was
almost impossible to find under the printer cover!

I did not realize that when I plugged in the usb that XP reinstalled the
printer and created a second copy of the printer in the Control Panel's
Printer section. So when I was trying to print, the docs were still going to
the parallel set up that had been unplugged.
