Hello: I D/L a few updates on the 25th and one was the latest definitions for
Defender. After attempting several times and it failing, there was obviously
an issue. To cure it on my machines I un-installed Defender and re-installed
the progg. it took the new definitions fine and all appears to be fine. If
you need to take this action don't forget to reset your personal settings.

Hi,

I am having the same problem. The update definitions 1.14.1408.8 fails to
install.

What do you mean with "don't forget to reset your personal settings"?

I'll give it a try.

Thanks,

Paco

Hi,

I removed/uninstalled and reinstalled Defender two times and still cannot
access the new update. I have the icon on the task bar and this does not help.

May be you did what I am going to say, but just in case:

You have to "Stop" Defender before Unistalling it. Did you? (Go to "Start",
"All Programs" - "Win...Defender", and in the arrow by the Help-Questions
mark, select "Exit")

In my case I installed it directly from the Microsoft web site.

Hi,

Try this:
Go to Start/run.
Copy and paste this whole line: ( with ")
"C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -RemoveDefinitions -All

then:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -SignatureUpdate
