Lately, i've been getting popups even when I'm not online. I'm running
xppro and explorer 6.0. After i close windows explorer, I can still find
iexplore.exe loaded in task manager.

Is this normal? Could this be why I'm getting popups when no browser is
loaded? I can be playing a Casino Card Game and have it interrupted with
a popup.

Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom,

Are these Messenger Service pop-ups? If so:

To disable the Messenger Service:

Go to Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. Double click the
Messenger Service and change Automatic to Disabled, then click the Stop
button.

Or use this automated edit:

To check what is listed to dial-out:

Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)/Dial-Up
Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all locations and check off
always ask me before auto dialing. Also, Disable autodial while I am logged
on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each location for
which you want the automatic dialing feature to operate. Reboot.

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type the
