I have an IEEE card in my computer and XP (pro) recognizes
it and there seems to be no problem. When I plug in my
camera, nothing happens. Windows does not "find" the
camera. I do not think there is anything wrong with the
camera or cable as I have used the same on another
computer without any problems.

I noticed that Network Connections now has a 1394 Net
Adaptor in it and I am wondering if that might be the
reason windows can not recognize the camera. I tried to
delete the connection, but XP will not let me.

Does anyone else have a similiar problem? How can I delete
a network connection that XP will not let be deleted?

Thanks In Advance.

Don't delete the 1394 NIC.... you won't be able to, XP will just reinstall
it next time since it is still present. Right click on it and select
DISABLE.

Reboot and see if the 1394 camcorder is now detected correctly.

I have it disabled and have rebooted (a few times) and no
change.
Not sure what else to try, if anything.

Do not disable the Firewire then nothing on the card will work. You
probably need to download drivers for the Camera itself from
manufacturer. Not all cameras are supplied out of the XP box...

My Win XP Professional system (Abit IC7-G) with Texas on board IEEE 1394 controller does not recognize Canon Elura (the camcorder and the firewire cable is OK, rested on other computer under Win Me and Mac). Exactly the same problem as you described ( and many frustrated people on this and other forums). I even tried add-on firewire card ( the external firewire harddrive worked, but Elura was still not recognized!). So the logical conclusion is that the problem lies with Microsoft Win XP. But they seem to not even acknolegge the issue: there is no "real" help out there ( I tied the fix with "enumeration problem) with no results. We need Microsoft to get to work to fix the problem. Hope they will..
