IEEE 1394 with free software...is free good?

I'm about to buy a simple IEEE 1394 card, there are many, I narrowed down to
pure Firewire (no USB) and found some for $13-25, but noticed one for around
$30 that has ULEAD "SE" software....I think that's the way-scaled down
version of regular software, or maybe it's a trial disk, don't know.

Is something like this worth it, or should I just skip it and stay with pure
electronics... is the software so scaled down as to be outdated for current
standards, or barely useful for doing a good job on a movie project.

Should I just stick with Win Movie Maker on this WinXP PC for time being?

Thanks for opinions/suggestions,
George

I bought Pinnacle Studio DV in a box which included a Firewire card, FW
cable, Pinnacle Studio 9 and printed manual for same.
Studio 9 has never worked and I invested in Adobe Premiere Elements 2,
Adobe's "Classroom In A Book" and "Premiere Elements for Dummies".

Well since the difference is minimal I would guess that it is either a trial
or, as you suspected already, a scaled down version. Since pretty much
everything Ulead does is available as a free trial download I would
recommend going back to the lower priced IEEE cards.

Depends on whether you feel you may want to upgrade at a later date.
The se version is a scaled down one, not a trial, so doesn't have all the
functions of the full version. Not knowing which se version it is, it may
also be out of date, Ulead are now on V9.
The benefit you would have from buying this one is that if you wanted to
upgrade to a full version of videostudio you'd get a very good upgrade
price.
