Hey I just got a Sony Vaio PCV-RS 410 from Best Buy it
has a 6-pin iLINK plug in the back and a 4-pin iLink in
the front. I'm running Win XP Pro. I tried plugging my
Canon XL1S into the front and the back and it didn't find
my camera. (I have both wires) I can't import video!
Microsoft says that my DV Camera is on the Hardware
Compatible List and is designed for XP. Canon.com says
that it is compatible. I can't find out how to capture
video which I desperatly need to do for a project coming
up pretty soon! I tried to capture with Windows Movie
Maker and Click to DVD but it won't even find my camera.
Please help! E-mail me back at (e-mail address removed) ASAP!
Thanks!
Justin

It's on in VCR mode. Also tried it in record mode. My
camera has a 1394 out/in so I plugged that out into the
computer. When I plug the camera into the computer I dont
even get a screen saying that a new device has been
found. Do you think my computer is broked?

There is a chain - only one broken link will prevent Plug'n'Pray to see your camcorder...
....If the IEEE Adapter is not installed correctly
....If you have a dead IEEE Adapter
....If you have loose contacts
....If you have a bad cable
....If the camcorders IEEE port is broken
....
=> One (or more) of this failures prevent a correct operation

-> Try a different cable
-> Try your camcorder with both cables on a different PC - if this works, your camcorder/cable is working well
-> Try a different camcorder on your PC - if thsi works, your PC is working well

Sometimes it helps to connect the camcorder without an AC Adapter (battery only)

Sometimes the IEEE port of the cancorder is blown up (voltage peaks) - see also:

see my posting below about turning the camera off and on and say if that is
the solution!

And e.g. here as well:

(ashina has already damaged 6 DV devices)
