When you run the Add/Remove application in the Control Panel, look to the
left and select the Windows components, it's probably there.

Funny thing: ie7 is there but ie8 cannot be removed!
Nor can one reinstall ie7 because "a more recent i..e..
is installed on this system." !

Tom,
Are you saying that IE8 is not an appropriate topic for this newsgroup
on XP "basics"?

No I just think he's implying that since IE8 is still in Beta that it
you might get better answers in that forum than here. Because most
people tend to shy away from using Beta software.

I'd say so. Once past the perhaps more XP-related question of where to find
how to uninstall it, problems *with* uninstalling it (which is where Tom
jumped in) would be better directed to the specific group for this beta
software that Tom gave. In the same way as, while IE and OE are similarly a
"part of" XP, there are groups dedicated to them which would therefore make
them the better place to post questions on them than here. But there's a lot
of blurring between many groups - how is one to decide which to post to out
of Basics, New Users, General, Help and Support, for instance?
