Installed IE8 over IE7 without uninstall of 7. Both <ctl+ f> or <alt +e +find
on this page> cause a blank system bar to appear under the system tab bar,
but no find text box.

I then downloaded & reinstalled IE8 over itself but no improvement. It did
work with IE7.

Do you have the same experience when you start Internet Explorer from
the 'no add-ons' icon?

FYI: Internet Explorer is part of the Windows operating system, not a
separate program. When you install IE 8 you are actually upgrading your
copy of Windows. That's why there's no need to uninstall your previous
version of Internet Explorer (nor should you even try) and it also
explains why re-installing the upgrade doesn't make any difference.

Yes, started with no addons & got same results.
Both IE7 & 8 do provide uninstall progs which in my experience can by intent
or mistake effect update subsequent installs. Since I updated 'over the top'
in the way most would, & until I hear of another similar complaint case I
would rather not take on the extra bother & risk to uninstall ie7 'just to
see what happens'.

Please let me know if you hear of another "Case of the missing IE8 Findbox".
Thanks

I also have the same problem. Have uninstalled IE8 twice now and reinstalled
from scratch and I still can't get the find box. The bar increases in size
to accommodate the find box, but it never shows up. I'm stuck and am not
sure what to do at this point.

To be clear I first tried to install over the top and when that did not work
I uninstalled via the control panel and then installed from scratch. No luck
either way.
