Is there a way to systematically import bookmarks from Firefox into
Internet Explorer 8? Thanks.

Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find
information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found:

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Specific to your query...
Google search for:
Import Favorites from Firefox to Internet Explorer 8
http://www.google.com/search?q=Import+Favorites+from+Firefox+to+Internet+Explorer+8

http://techie-buzz.com/ie8/ie8-import-firefox-opera-safari-favorites.html

http://www.tips4pc.com/Bookmarks/Bookmarks.htm

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/...e-internet-explorer-favorites-or-import-from/

Essentially, for IE8...

Step 1: Go to the file menu in IE8 and click on Import & Export Options.

Step 2: In the window that opens up, select Import from another browser and
click on the next button.

Step 3: Select the browsers you want to import the favorites and bookmarks
from and click on the Import button, you can choose from Firefox, Opera and
Safari.

Step 4: Once everything has been imported to IE, you will see a message that
the settings were imported successfully, click on the finish button.

Once you have followed the steps listed above, you will have access to the
bookmarks and feeds from Firefox, Opera and Safari in Internet Explorer.

Let us know if that helped!

Maybe you have not been around USENET long enough, but at an earlier
time, the USENET archive was a marvelous resource of information.
Unfortunately, Google has destroyed access to that USENET archive.
Unless someone else steps up and fills the shoes of Deja News (the
former USENET archive holder who sold it to Google), or Google changes
its ways, a vast amount of exactly the same sort of information you are
referring to will remain lost. Your Google has destroyed access to about
15 years worth of peer contributed information here on USENET.

After some looking in the Internet Explorer 8 menu, I did figure out the
method you posted. But have you ever actually used it for importing
Firefox bookmarks into Internet Explorer? That method fails miserably
here.

Windows XP SP3
Internet Explorer 8
all current Windows/IE updates
Firefox 3.0.11

The objective here is to get bookmarks into Internet Explorer so that
they can be imported into an iPhone (from Internet Explorer because the
iPhone will not directly import from Firefox). Even though I was unable
to do that with Internet Explorer 8, I easily reverted back to IE 6 and
the process worked reasonably well.

Thanks.

It is not working here. Even with that, Internet Explorer 6 does not
allow direct importing from Firefox, and Internet Explorer 8 fails in
the process.

Internet Explorer 6 does correctly import the HTML file that was
exported from Firefox. That is a reasonable workaround IMO, for the
moment.
