I note that on the Vista updates there is the opportunity to download IE8 and it is listed as "important". Anyone using automatic updates would have had this downloaded by default but I use manual downloading.

Is this something that we all should do ......

......or are there any downsides to this?

It's not important to us, only important to MS.

I have IE8 loaded in Vista in system shown in my sig, it works ok, no problems.

It's a bit different, I don't like the toolbar/favourites arrangements much, but I suppose I'll get used to it.

And I still prefer it over Firefox.

I downloaded IE8 and then again downgraded to IE7....there are couple of annoying things like it becomes unresponsive more frequently than IE7.

It shows some sites not as original and a break icon appears on top..

tracking and recommending sites function does not work well

IE8 crashes more frequently than IE7. You can choose whether to install IE8, it is not necessary. I suggest that you'd better keep using IE7.

I downloaded it yesterday and today i had to download firefox today so i could post on PCR....MS can keep it and now i have the bother of getting back to IE7. Also having used firefox for acouple of hours i think its faster.
Zzzzz

IE8 hasn't crashed once on me (see system sig) but I haven't tried it in XP yet.

Come to think of it, I can't honestly remember a time both IE6 & IE7 have ever crashed on me.

You lot must have iffy machines... ;)

Not praising Microsoft, merely reporting as is.
