IE7 still does not get the concept of tabbed browsing. Its annoying as hell
that links still open a new window and not a tab unless you right click the
f'ing link and select new tab. WTF? How f'ing hard is it to get this shiat
right... jeez.

Yeah... how about just clicking the link... I dont get it... it should be
the other way around. If I want a new WINDOW I will right click or hit
control... thats the way it SHOULD be. Right???

On anouther matter of IE7, I like as much screen and as little toolbar as
possible. In IE6 I could condense the complete toolbar into one bar about
1/2" wide. In IE7, the best I've been able to do is 3 bars, about 2" wide,
the address bar, links and file, edit, etc bar and the favorites and
window/tab bar.
Is there a trick to condense the toolbar beyond the 2" I've got now?
Thanks for any tips.

Press the middle button of the mouse on a link.
It's annoying to see ignorant people don't read the help manual or don't
explore the Tab settings
Tools -> Internet Options -> Tabs settings

I had same feeling when I first started using IE7, never used "tabbed"
browser before - though to myself "This can not be right".

Have you tried changing the tab setting under Internet Options?

Tools>Internet Options>General - at bottom of page is "Tab" and a "setting"
button. Microsoft had set default to "Open in new window" - I think this was
a mistake by MS. Make sure tabs are enabled. Also about mid-way down the
"Setting" page is a section "When a popup is encountered". I changed mine to
the top choice - "Let Internet Explorer decide...." Have not tried third
choice "Always open pop-ups in a new tab". In the next section I selecte the
middle option - "A new tab in the current window" The "pop-up" business is
somewhat confusing, I feel it should have said "page" rather than "pop-up".

I could not tell for sure if you had tried this as there was more
frustration expressed than information in your post. If you have tried the
above and still do not like the way tabs works, please disregard the steps
above. However I hope this helps on the problem

Press the middle button of the mouse on a link.
What middle button ? :-/
I use a plain 2 button PS2 Mouse or a 4 Button Trackball depending on
which system I am on. There goes Billy G, forcing you to junk older
hardware again. Firefox does it fine with a 2 button mouse.

BTW I still think IE7 is a improvement.

BillD... if I wanted your smart ass comment about being ignorant I would go
somewhere else... I dont expect that from usenet ya ass... I know where the
tab settings are and about holding control or middle clicking... my point
was why isnt tabbed browsing set to open a tab with a normal left click like
all other web browsing... got it? Good.

Please disregard my earlier response as I completely misunderstood the
situation. I went back and re-read your initial post and thought "what is he
talking about?" - the left click business. I went and tried left clicking on
a link and saw what you meant. After seeing that and trying it, I agree
completely with you about what the default action should be. Please excuse me
for "butting in" previously but as I indicated I had not used a tabbed
enabled browser previously and my input was an attempt to be helpful. The
good side of this is that I learned something new about tabbed browsing -
thanks though it took me a minute to figure it out.

I am staying out of the issue between you and Bill D. that is between you
two, but wanted to let you know you helped me learn something new and that I
agree with you, though maybe not with the same level of passion.
