Hi, I am unable to change alot of my settings. When I go into tools and
internet options, down at the very bottom it says "some settings are managed
by your system administrator". It blanks out alot of the buttons and won't
let me change my settings. The problem is this is a stand alone, home machine
and I am the administrator for the machine. I have had the problem since
installing IE7 beta but thought it would rectify itself when the full version
came out. Any ideas?

One of your security programs is blocking these settings.

Close IE.
Open Regedit.
Find the value NoBrowserOptions and remove every instance of it.
It is most likely (but not necessarily) to be here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions

You might try this from Mike Burgess first if you use SpyBot:
'Did you by chance run SpyBot's Immunize feature?
If so, you can unlock by unchecking the option to "Protect IE Control
Panel".
See http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=6748

AdAware, MS Anti-Spyware and other anti-spyware and anti-virus programs may
have similar options.

Thanks for your reply, I have tried this and spybot doesn't seem to be the
problem. I have counter spy, adawre, wippatrol, zonealarm and avast all on my
computer. Could one of these be causin a problem?

I've never used any of those, so I can't say for sure. What version of Zone
Alarm? Check the options in all of them for something about protecting
settings. All but the firewall can be turned off to see if they are the
problem. For Zone Alarm you would probably have to disconnect from the
Internet and uninstall it to see if it's the cause. Don't reconnect to the
Internet without at least turning on the Windows Firewall.
