Dear experts,

sorry if i post at the wrong place I did not find a realted group for IE7 ...

I am currently having a real hard problem:

As a developer I am working with VisualStudio 2003 and 2005 Professional and
I also need a lot to research on msdn2.microsoft.com.
My current system: Windows XP SP2 (current updates), IE7, Windows Update is
currently not detecting any needed updates.

Everything works fine - EXCEPT THAT ONE THING I DAILY NEED very often:

Whenever I surf to msdn2.microsoft.com onto a site in the library the left
sided treeview gets ready to expand and then suddenly I get the message:

"sysfader: iexplore.exe" which is informing me about a memory crash.

So currently I am not able to use any integrated documentation of microsoft
(except the offline versions) because the crash also happens within the new
help environment.
This problem does ONLY happen when I surf to msdn2.microsoft.com onto a site
where the left sided treeview expands, I did not have that problem within the
last 2 months on any other site.

Please help, I am really tired of copy and pasting around all those
msdn2.microsoft.com links between MS products and firefox ....

Regards

Thomas

That would be IE General but I suspect this question isn't specifically related
to IE7 anyway.

Any cases of that message seem to involve machines in which drwtsn32
has been disabled. Try enabling drwtsn32.exe and find out what the error
really is. E.g. Run... drwtsn32.exe -i

Then capture the Stack Back Trace from the crashing thread
(e.g. the one where the FAULT -> line matches the crash address matches)

Another way to get the same type of information is to Run... ProcMon
and capture the list of modules from the trace entry which corresponds
to the crash event.

BTW doing the above would take abend handling away from Visual Studio.
But with that sysfader symptom I don't think that it is hooked in anyway.

So currently I am not able to use any integrated documentation of microsoft
(except the offline versions) because the crash also happens within the new
help environment.
This problem does ONLY happen when I surf to msdn2.microsoft.com onto a site
where the left sided treeview expands, I did not have that problem within the
last 2 months on any other site.

msdn2.microsoft.com links between MS products and firefox ....

Have you tried using Visual Studio's Document Explorer instead?
E.g. the MSDN offline viewer can also be used online.
And if it can't be used either you would be able to expand your symptom
description for your problem.

Crossposted to IE General.

The crash is related to your Nvidia hardware/software. Try decreasing
display acceleration settings, check for driver update(s), or do a driver
rollback if you just installed new drivers.

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), (b)
all toolbars and (c) all third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds) and do NOT reinstall IE7, does this behavior persist? If it does,
do NOT reinstall IE7.

installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.]

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
reinstalling IE7 to install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

Dear Robert,

a lot of work - thanks for your suggestions.

I just made a reset of my IE7 as you described - this did not help. Surfing
to msdn2.microsoft.com brought me the same crash again.

What I'm still wondering about is that the crash only happens when visiting
the library under msdn2.microsoft.com, it does not happen on any other site
(and it never did).

I will let you know if I was able to solve the problem.

Thanks again.

Tom

I just followed Roberts post:

- Resetting IE7 did not solve the problem

- Uninstalling IE7 (like described in support.microsoft.com), rebooting,
Reinstalling solved it

After doing a uninstall - reinstall the problem did not exist anymore. I
hope this remains, if not I will post again :-)
