For the last week or so IE7 has been reseting it's self to work offline at
first it was only an annoyance but it is starting to worry me although I run
Windows Defender and spybot S&D no spy ware is found is there some way to
"nail"the choice of "work on line" permenantly I am on the internet every
day.I know that this is for IE^ but there isnot a fofum for IE7 Yet!

X-post to IE General.

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode?

To start IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

2. If you uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), does this
behavior persist?

I have turned off the IE7 Add-ons instantly brought up a warning that I had I
will see what happens next so I'll shut it down for a few hours to
see.Thinking of it ,it seems to me that there is a programe that is tring to
get acces to the internet but I don't have any on this computer that do so,at
least not that I know of lol.

....

It may help if you clarified what the symptoms are exactly.
E.g. often it is a case of a user misinterpreting a message about connectivity
and not a case of GlobalUserOffline being set (e.g. as evidenced by a
checkmark beside File, Work Offline). Then, if it is only a question about
connectivity you might find better assistance in a newsgroup specializing
in networking for your OS.

More symptoms that you could describe precisely and not attempt to
interpret yourself? Remember, your words have to substitute for what
our eyes might notice. ; )

@Robert Aldwinkle:- symptoms as follows I sign out of my isp by clicking on
exit which shuts the browser of it has in the past asked if I want to sign
back on but it hasn't for some time (ie.maybe six or seven months suspect
that my ISP has patched the software)as I run some projects for various DC
programes I generally just turn of the monitor at night when I next turn on
the monitor the afore said message is on the screen I start up Internet
Explorer click on tools and find that "work offline" is ticked despite the
fact that I have unticked it the day before and before that and so on.

That's the unusual case. So, one possibility, especially since you think you
may be using some software supplied by your ISP, is that that software is what
is doing it. You could test that idea by running RegMon looking for any instance
of SetValue with GlobalUserOffline. If nothing else RegMon could give you
a clearer idea of when the value is being set.

Another possibility you might want to consider is that perhaps it is occurring
automatically somehow with the prompt that I was alluding to before
but something is making it appear that the Work Offline option
is to be used? E.g. if that happened quickly enough you might not
even be aware of the either the prompt or the button being "clicked".

One known cause of such random interference with various dialogs
is a tool that ISPs sometimes add to users' machines called Motive SmartBridge.
If you have that product installed you should try uninstalling it
and see if your symptoms change.

BTW I don't know if MSB is one of the things which would be inhibited
by using the No Add-ons option. Apparently there are some interferers
(Google Desktop being the main example), which still operate even
with the No Add-ons option in effect.
