All of a sudden I have intermittent javascript problems. Sometimes a
page will open, but always slowly. Sometimes I get the dreaded "not
responding" and have to exit. I have no problems with other browsers
in this area, but IE7 is being a pain. I've reinstalled java, and
even tried to reinstall IE7 in case something has been lost. I can't
even uninstall IE7 and download a new browser.

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, reinstalling Java is a futile exercise for curing JavaScript
problems. There is less relationship between Java (developed by Sun
Microsystems) and JavaScript (developed by Netscape) than between Outlook
(developed by the Microsoft Office team) and Outlook Express (developed by
the Microsoft Internet Explorer team).

In terms of using the browser, you *could* just ignore MSIE 7, and run with
Firefox, Opera, or something else (without removing MSIE7, which is mostly
impossible, anyway). However, if you don't want to do that, your best
solution is to check your site permissions in the Security settings of
Internet Options. You may just be overly strict with allowing, or
prohibiting scripts.

Have both Opera and Firefox...plus Netscape and Safari. Unfortunately
IE, unbelievably, does a few things better to my liking. I just hate
to have to switch over at times....and as I said, this just started
happening.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Well...it seems that I can't access Internet Options under Tools. The
window comes up and immediately disappears. So much for checking site
permissions.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

After being away for several days, I checked those sites, but the
problem that I have is that most of them ask for me to go to
Tools/Internet Options. That is unavailable to me. The original
problem with javascript seems to be better though.

However, not being able to access Internet Options is going to be a
real problem.

Skip anything necessitating accessing Internet Options.

"NoBrowserOptions" restriction in the registry perhaps? Sometimes it will
throw up the warning that it's been resticted by an administrator, sometimes
not....
