IE7 Drops Typed Characters

I've seen this issue mentioned sporadically before, but have not seen any
resolution as of yet, so I thought I'd open it back up again and see what
happens.

When typing text into a text box on a website or even into the address bar,
IE7 will randomly drop characters or, in other words, even though you press
the key, IE7 misses it and doesn't input it. For example:

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party.

can become

No is te timefr all god men tocome t the ad of the part

It is completely random and extremely annoying. Typing speed does not seem
to matter.

On my system, a Sony laptop, I tried all of the usual troubleshooting steps,
including disabling all add-ons, resetting IE7, deleting all caches/temporary
files, disabling antivirus, etc. Nothing seemed to help.

I finally created a new user account and tried IE7 under that user and,
voila, it worked fine and didn't drop any characters. So, I proceeded to
setup the account with all my preferences and low and behold, IE7 started
dropping characters again.

I created another user account and IE7 was, again, okay. So I started
setting up all of my preferences again, installing them one at a time and
then testing IE7. I eventually narrowed my problem down to this: UPEK's
Protector Suite QL V5.6

Protector Suite QL is used to handle password/security using the built-in
fingerprint scanner. If Protector Suite is simply loaded and running without
having any fingerprints enrolled (so you cannot scan a fingerprint in lieu of
a password anywhere in the system), there is no problem and everything,
including IE7 works as expected. However, as soon a you enroll a fingerprint
and either log off and log back in or reboot (this may not be necessary, I'm
not absolutely sure), IE7 will start dropping characters. No other
application is affected. Once you delete the enrolled fingerprints, IE7
again works normally!

I've contacted Sony about the issue and they of course had me reformat and
reinstall everything on the laptop, but this made no difference. They say
that I'm the only one to report this issue, so they're simply hoping for an
update to appear and correct the issue.

I've contacted UPEK about the issue, but they have not responded. Also,
there is nothing that I could find in the Microsoft Knowledgebase about this
issue. When googling the subject I've seen a few other reports of this
behavior, but no mention of a fix or what hardware/software they are using.

Does anyone else have any suggestions or input regarding this? If you're
running this software, Power Suite QL, which many manufacturers include with
their machines, please let me know. Maybe if we can get this issue
replicated, we can push someone into looking into and fixing it.

Thanks!
