IE7 Beta2 Overwritten by IE6. How to fix?

I loaded Internet Explorer 7 Beta2 on computer, then had problems with the
motherboard. The supplier repaired Windows XP to fix drivers for
motherboard. I am now unable to access Internet Explorer.

It seems that the file wininet.dll, and maybe other files, has been
overwritten with an older version. When I try to reload Internet Explorer 7
Beta2, I am told that Internet Explorer 7 is already loaded and that I should
remove it through the Control Panel. However, it no longer appears in the
Control Panel, whether Show Updates is ticked or not. Internet Explorer 6
has been loaded over it.

When I click on Internet Explorer, the following comes up in a dialog box
"The procedure entry point InternetGetSecurityInforByURLW could not be
located in the dynamic link library Wininet.dll.†I tried to replace the
file with one from another computer also running Internet Explorer 7, but, no
matter what I did a dialog box came up saying the file was being used by
another program.

Is there a way I can force a reload of IE7 Beta2? I assume there should be a
registry key change which will let me do this.

Sigh... sounds like yet another poor unfortunate soul
for whom installing a BETA web browser made no sense at all...

From the Release Notes:

<QP>
OS Updates--Do not reinstall any version of Microsoft Windows *in any way*
after you install Internet Explorer 7. Do not upgrade in place or upgrade to
a new edition. The workaround is to remove Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2,
install operating system updates, and then reinstall Internet Explorer.

Your /only/ option now is to format & reinstall (not repair) Windows.
