IE6SP2 weird behaviour.

Hi!

IE6_SP2 does not allow me to either open or save an attachment from my
webmail secure site. It does not seem to be a problem in connecting to secure
sites because the weird behaviour happens from within a secure site
connection, I mean I am already connected to the secure site and I can send
and receive messages but the only issue is that IE6 doesn't allow me to
download the attachments.
+/- Error message: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in
effect on this computer..."

Note: The weird behaviour affects only one specific webmail secure site. No
problems with other secure sites. Hotmail, Yahoo!, MSN Messenger, Internet
Banking are OK. (What on earth would make a secure site different from
another one with exception of SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0 and the "MTU"?) .

Thanks. Have a nice week-end you all!

Hi Mendes :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security tab.
Click on the Internet zone and then click on Custom Level tab
Scroll down to Download section
Under that to File Download...be sure Enable is checked

Set the Reset custom settings to Medium

or.....

Cannot Download Documents from a Secure Web Site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q196124/

Error message: "Internet Explorer cannot download a file"
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816868

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan Il,
Hope you had a nice weekend.
File download is already enabled at the Internet Zone and both "Q196124" and
"816868" documents do not apply to my IE6SP2 bizarre problem which happens to
only one specific secure site.
I can connect to all secure sites. I can download attachments from all
webmail secure sites except from a specific one, which makes me wonder what
can be so different from a secure website to other ones. SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0,
TLS 1.0, "MTU", are ok in my XPPROSP2.
Still I wonder...

Thanks anyway.
Mendes.

Hi Mendes :-)

It seems then that this site is being blocked somewhere then. Checked the
following:

1. Your HOST file to make sure it is not listed there.
How to check Hosts file

Windows/host (it will not have an extension, and if there is more than one,
choose the one that says Application in a column to the right) . Right click
on it and select Open with.....when the window opens, scroll down the list
to Notepad. Once it opens in Notepad, scroll down the list to see if that
site is in the list. If so, DO NOT delete it, just go to the very front of
the line to the left and enter # in front of the line so that it looks
similar to the one below, as the entries with # in front will be ignored.

# Entries with other comments are searchable via Google.

Then click the save button and close. Then try the site again.

also see:
How Do I Use the HOST File?
http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html

2. The Internet Trusted zone:

How to add a site to a Trusted Zone in Internet Explorer
http://surfthenetsafely.com/ieseczone7.htm

3. If you have Zone Alarm, you might also check the Trusted area there too:
http://castlecops.com/postt79691.html

4. Try deleting the TIF folder and History folder for that user account. See
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

5. Check all security and ActiveX settings in your AV, anti-spyware
programs,
3rd party toolbars.

6. Check your firewall for settings and ActiveX blockers.

7. Go to Tools> Internet Options. Privacy
Click Sites.
Enter the site that you can't access and click Always Allow

8. Go to Tools>InternetOptions>Privacy tab
Click the Sites tab.
Remove any Domains under Managed Websites that have to do with the website
you can't access, as they may be blocked cookies. Then reboot and see if you
can access the site.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan Il,

I followed all your recommendations and also used all step-by-step
suggestions I could google, including Microsoft's ones, but I got no success.
However, I have just realized if I log onto my XPPROSP2 as a different user,
'administrator' for example, my IES6SP2 can connect to my webmail secure site
as usual but now I can download all the attachments I was being prevented
before.
Jan, now I am deeply worried... Suppose the problem is a corrupt user
profile... Jesus Christ! That is not an easy task to handle without losses
and surely it is a very time-consumming opperation...
Any better idea?
Thanks for you patience.

Mendes.
