Hi all, I am using XPSP2 slipstreamed and today and IE has started neededing
http:// to work, otherwise it takes 5 minutes to load a page. I have tried
the following:
1) Clear Cookies
2) Clear Cache
3) Clear History
4) Check Registry for issue in other threads all reg keys correct

Any Ideas on what else to try re this matter, as it is abit annoying :D

Thanks

Hi PA BEAR,
Sorry I ment to add that, I have checked the registry it is correct, same
settings as in the file you sugested, both Ad-Aware, Norton and SpyBot report
no infections of spyware or anything more dangerous than a cookie.

Hope this helps.
Thanks

I suggest you take a closer look at how you use NAV and the malware tools:

Dealing with Trojans & Hijackware

A. Trojans

1. Check in at Windows Update and install all critical updates & reboot.

2. Download and run Stinger (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/); then...

3. Update your virus definitions, enable Show Hidden Files
(http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2002092715262339)
and then run a full system scan in Safe Mode
(http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406)
with nothing else running in background. Note the files identified and
removed then find the corresponding page for the file at your AV maker's
online support pages (e.g.,
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.winfavorites.html)
and follow *all* Removal steps, including editing the Registry if directed.

WinXP Only (WinME similar): If this scan finds anything, create a new
Restore Point then:

Disk Cleanup > More options > Delete all but the most recent Restore
Point.

B. Hijackware

CoolWebSearch Chronicles
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Run these tools in the following order with nothing else running in
background:

1. CWShredder v2.0 (no updates available currently; choose Fix, not Scan)

2. Ad-Aware SE (reconfigure per Post #2 in
http://aumha.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5877; fix all found)

3. Spybot (RTFM but generally fix everything in red)

Important: You must seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and
every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://forum.aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to
use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.
**Post your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

PA Bear, believe me, It is not a hijacked browser, i have looked at alot of
tools all come back clean, (including the ones you suggested) it appears to
be a problem somewhere between IE6 and XPSP2. Appologies for sounding rude,
but I have checked the usual, and ruled them outit does seem to be a IE6
issue itself, but what I cant figure out.

Thanks anyway

Have you posted your Hijack This log to a recommended forum? Has it
received a clean bill of health?

Does uninstalling SP2 (and, possibly, using System Restore to a point
pre-dating the install of SP2 by several days) fix it? Best not to "remove"
SP2 by using System Restore. Uninstall it via A/R P.

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
