For some reason, IE6 won't work with websites or read
news articles that have previously worked and/or used
before.

The error says, "Internet Explorer cannot open the
Internet site (website URL). Operation aborted.

Then it shows the Cannot Find Server page with the header
Page cannot be displayed."

It happens when I click the Gamesville word when I go to
www.lycos.com.

Also, the website www.miniclip.com keeps refreshing. It
hasn't done that before. It's a free online game website.

There was a news section of a search engine (sorry, can't
recall which) that when I clicked on the headline, it
couldn't open the full article.

Please help.

I wish I had an answer for you. Unfortunately, I have the
same problem. I run IE6 on XP. It used to work fine. Now
there are some websites that I can't get to anymore. This
includes www.microsoft.com and www.ebay.com. The Netscape
browser works fine at these sites.

The error message is "Internet Explorer returns and error
on the address you just entered or clicked"

any ideas out there?

A lot of these problems are caused by web tracking spyware and advertising
junk... the Miniclip Site is watching your progress around the net judging
by a quick glance through the source code. See if there's junk to remove
using the 4 bottom links, the top 3 will help stop reinfection.
www.privacy.net explains a lot of detail if you're interested.

I had the exact same problem with some websites, like
hotmail.com and yahoo mail inbox (and others). Extensive
google searching revealed that other people have
encountered the same problem. But none of the solutions
posted (like changing security settings of the IE etc.)
worked for me. Finally the answer turned out to be the
MTU setting of my DSL modem (I found the solution in some
newgroup, but forgot which). I decreased it to 1400, and
the problem went away like magic! There is a tool called
DrTCP available on the net. Download it and try
decreasing the MTU of your modem. Let the group know if
your problem went away.
