Hi all, I have been reading the responses eagerly trying to glean information
to try and get my IE6 back, but it seems the responses are XP specific. I am
running Win2k. Anyway, on clicking the IE icon, nothing happens. Task
manager lists IEEXPLORER.EXE as a running task, however the computer slows
down/almost hangs until STOP Process for IE is selected. I have run anti
virus, malicious software remover, trojan remover and have my firewall's
security set to its highest, to which all responses are there is no malware
...... so they say. All the systems are up to date with their respective
security downloads. Outlook Xpress works fine as does Firefox and other
software requiring access to the web. I have removed the Yahoo toolbar and
run the suggested .dll's in another post. All to no avail. Ive started in
safe mode with the same results. Its getting to the point of reinstalling
the OS and associated s/ware (yikes!) This is my last port of call. If
anyone can offer a suggestion or help in any way, it would be most
appreciated. Cheers

You typed: IEEXPLORER.EXE
Neither that nor iexplorer.exe are microsoft programs. Did you mean
iexplore.exe or explorer.exe? If not, you are infected with malware.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose default
install is loaded with malware. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along.
