IE6 won't shut down properly

When I close IE6, the program won't shut down completely.
The window closes, but my computer continues to churn
away. If I hit control-alt-delete, I can see that
Iexplore is still running. I have to terminate the
program in this window to get my computer to stop
churning. What is wrong and how can I fix the problem?
