--- IE6 Won't open ---

A

Aron M.

Internet Explorer will not open.
Everytime you try to open the browser the
"Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs
to close..." window pops up.
Details
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName:
msyy32.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000143ce

All updates and Hotfixes are installled and current

I have tried re-installing IE6 (which was a hassel in-
and-of itself) But the same error occurs.

Also while using MSN explorer the same error will occur
but the app doesn't close, it just hangs for about 45 secs
and continues to work.

If anyone has a solution or suggestion to this problem
please let me know.

Thank You

I don't know which malware program msyy32.dll is from, but try this:

From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." That should allow IE to work.

You might also be able to browse and download programs from the address bar
of Windows Explorer.

Download and run Run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
CWShredder is only about 125 KB so it could be downloaded from another
machine onto a floppy disk if necessary.

Then download, install, *update* and run both of these programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items listed in red-others are
optional.)
Both programs should be updated after installation- before use.

You should re-enable browser extensions after the cleanup.

If these programs don't remove the malware, HijackThis should be used to
post a log to the appropriate forum at one of these sites.
