ie6 won't open search sites

on my labtop ie6 will open all websites except search engines such as
yahoo, google, msn and so on, I have checked/adjusted my security
settings and this did not help, anybody know how I can fix this?

See if these sites are being blocked by a HOSTS file. Some malware programs
add entries to the HOSTS file.

To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is
not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file
at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If
there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in
front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS
file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.

In Win 9x, the file will be at [C:\Windows]
In Win 2K, at [C:\WINNT\System32\Drivers\etc]

Some malware must be removed manually. You may have to register and post a
HijackThis log to one of these forums for additional help. Look for the
proper forum and an "Important- Read This First" message so that you follow
proper procedure.
