When I go to any link related to "Microsoft" as part of the web address I
get an error message and IE shuts down. Access to all other sites is fine.
I've run Norton, numerous spyware, trojan etc. detectors but nothing found.
Any suggestions.

What is the exact error message?
If there is a Details button click that and give us the first two lines.

It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look also for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.

If you have scanned your system with AdAware and Spybot and the latest file
definition tables, then:

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.

Thanks, the "hosts" file was the problem. Deleted and saved another. I use
CIP by Radsoft to keep my hosts file updated. I actually had 2 hosts files
showing. I deleted both and problem went away. Thanks for suggestion. Any
idea how it got corrupted ??? Thanks again.

It probably was not damaged.
If the HOSTS file references a IP address and that address has changed then
you will not be able to get to the page. Do not know what RadSoft does but
if it's a web acceleration software then it may be the cause.

On the other end having a second HOST file could be a concerned with
parasites, check it out with the address I gave you below.
