IE6 will not disconnect from the internet

When I try to end my on-line session by clicking on
the "X" in the upper right hand corner of the screen, my
computer returns to my desktop but the on-line connection
is not terminated. When I used to click this "X" I would
get a message box with two buttons asking me
to "Disconnect" or "Stay Connected" but this message box
does not appear anymore. How can I get this message box
to reappear?
