My IE6 will not go to ANY websites, but firefox and AIM work fine
(except for GMail notifier). I've tried reinstalling IE6 but this has
not worked as well as run the sfc /scannow process - neither has
worked.

This was caused by my downloading IE7 RC1 yesterday - after it was
installed, it did not work at all and so i uninstalled it. Now, IE6
won't work...please please please help.

What anti-virus are you using?
Sounds like malware.
So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose default
install is loaded with malware. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along.

Can you access secure sites with IE? For me, I can access https pages
just fine, but not http pages. Seriously. Any suggestions? I have
windows defender running and will be running AdAware shortly.

I uninstalled IE7 (problem persisted with IE6), then reinstalled IE7
this morning, but the problem did not go away.

Could this be related to services? I flipped a bunch of them to manual
recently, but turned most of them (the ones I turned off initially)
back on and it didn't help.

What about proxies?--I regularly use multiple proxies. Everything on
the proxy page is clear now, and I have tried connecting from multiple
sites with direct access.

IE just says "Connecting..." indefinitely.

Thanks,
Michael

Adaware found nothing, Defender found nothing. My hosts file is
clean....grrrr

Frank,

Problem solved! Thanks very much.

I ran HijackThis and fixed/deleted the items referring to missing files
that were obviously leftover junk. I also removed the references to my
proxy settings just for kicks. After rebooting, things work again!

Anyway, thanks again!

Michael
