I have a Windows xp machine with SP2 running IE6. All of the latest patches
are applied.

When I open IE6, it loads the home page fine. If I type in a new web
address - it takes 1 full minute before it even starts to load. After the
minute, it loads immediately.

If I click on a favorite - its immediate
if I click on the history - its immediate
if I click on a LINK - its immediate
if I click START - RUN - and type a web address - its immediate.

I've checked for spyware, and virus' - nothing has been found. I've run the
sfc/scannnow - and that didn't make any difference.

I've cleaned out the IE cache
I've cleaned out the TEMP folder
I've turned off pop-up blockers - I've changed DNS servers, I've disabled
the Windows Firewall - I am at a complete loss. I'm trying to avoid a system
reinstall.

This is a dell Latitude d810 system.

If anyone has any ideas on what to try next - I'd be forever greatful!

Hi,
If you have Autocomplete turned on for URLs (either Internet Options>
Content> Autocomplete or Internet Options> Advanced> Use inline
autocomplete) corruption in the History folder could be causing this.

Be sure that you can see hidden files. Login as another user with
administrator privileges, or from the machine's default administrator
account (from safe mode) and delete the affected History folder from Windows
Explorer. It should be at [C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings] Then restart.

You would not be able to delete this History folder when logged in as
yourself- it's "In use." You should be able to delete it from the
Administrator account.

If this doesn't help, I would conduct a *very* thorough search for malware.

No one program can remove all malware. Start by downloading, updating and
running
Ad-aware, Spybot and Windows AntiSpyware (Beta.)

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
for analysis. Start at

http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Work through the preliminary cleaning
steps then post a HijackThis log to the forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30

Be patient. It's a busy forum.

HijackThis logs are also analyzed at these (and other) forums. Look for the
proper forum and an "Important- Read This First" message so that you follow
proper procedure.

Don - thanks for the input - I'm going to have the client try it today or
tomorrow - I'll let you know if it fixes it.
