Ihave had this going on for about 10 days and cannot find anything on it. IE
responds normally and quickly to requests based on hyperlinks or favorites,
but if I manually enter an address (www...) it waits a minute (literally 60
secs) before beginning to go to the requested site. Any help appreciated!

First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Thanks Frank- but I am not certain that is the answer. I am on XP pro and
run the XP firewall. Also have an install of Spyware Doctor (not the best I
know but improving) and keep it current. The newest version has a malware
module but has not made a difference. Most frsutrating is that I cannot
point to anything that changed about my machine that could have started this.

I run a desktop on the same network with XP Home and the same AV and Spyware
and have had no such issues. I have tried eliminating content in teh browser
cache and even considered wiping all cookies. It may be that Adaware or
another spyware would find something that DRS does not. But the odd part of
this (and maybe a clue to the fix) is that this is only an issue for
addresses manually entered into the address line. Links or those in recent
history or favorites go like a shot. But if I type in an address, it waits a
full minute before even starting to go.

More ideas?

Thanks

Well, I downloaded and ran Adaware and you were correct. it found 114
"suspect" items that my Spyware Dr. did not; however even after that cleaning
I still have the same behavior with the browser. I do not know if this will
help, but this evening I entered an address of a site I visit often, realized
that the browswer was not responding so went to the site via my shortcuts. I
logged in and was looking at my travel for tomorrow and a minute later, the
browser navigated to the home page- and not logged in. So it is as if the
initial command was sitting somewhere and was executed after a period of time
waiting.

Ideas? I would certainly like to get this sorted as it is a real problem
for going to new sites. Thanks

At http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm also try Spybot S & D,
CWShredder and HijackThis.
