IE6 Toolbar Hell

After years of Win98SE I've taken the plunge and have joined the XP galaxy.
Just bought an HP a320n and am very happy except....

I like to kill the "go" button, kill the "links" toolbar, switch to small
fonts, and condense what's left to one, thin bar that has the file/view -
address - navigation sections all on this one thin bar. Choose "lock the
toolbars" to pick up a few more millimeters too.

I've played with it a dozen times to no avail and, no matter what, the
computer just won't retain the settings. Every time I restart the computer
I get a window that's 60% of the screen (despite setting it for maximized
the previous usage) and the damn toolbar re-expands itself to the default
state.

I had no problems a week ago with my old 98SE machine, so what gives with
the XP OS and IE6 on not retaining my toolbar settings?

Help!

TIA

Make your changes, lock the toolbar, and resize the window as you want it.
Making certain you close all other IE windows first, now close this one
whilst also depressing CTRL.

To have your initial IE window open maximized: Start>Programs>right-click on
Internet Explorer>Properties>Run>Maximized.

where is 'run' in ie6.0 'internet properties' window?
is run a tab or button?

i just use file-exit to keep the window size....
too easy?

Mr. Bear......

We're halfway home! Thanks for the tip on opening maximized.....got rid of
the "special" IE desktop icon and copy/pasted the one from Start/Programs.

......but.....

Followed your directions to the T and still that toolbar will not retain its
settings. Upon re-launching WinXP and clicking on the desktop icon, the
window launched maximized but the toolbar un-did my thin compressed look and
expanded itself all over the place again.

What can I do? Help!

......one more thing. I've got an HP and they've got a toolbar addon in IE
called "HP View". I downloaded that app that removes things like this from
the toolbar but guess what....

......upon rebooting, the HP View re-appeared on the toolbar. Could this be
the culprit? Could it be that something in the startup process is launching
this HP View thing and that's what's making IE "forget" it's toolbar
settings?

If so, how would I remove this HP View gizmo?

TIA

HP View would absolutely cause the problem. To remove it...

These days most of us are recommending HijackThis to identify and assist in

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

HP View comes preinstalled with my HP computer. Are you sure it's the
culprit? Wouldn't think that the computer manufacturer would spy on me.....

TIA

No, but something you downloaded, probably not intentionally, would.
