this problem showed first, i think since the second sept update (about sept 24 2006)

ie6 starts at
http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?Prd=ie&Pver=5.0&Ar=ie5update&O1=b1
which goes to the ms ie6/7 page

i unlocked inetcpl in spybot's "ie weaks". then re-pasted the homepage (local file, although
this file://.. url was already in there)
click 'apply' button. close inetcpl
relock start/home in spybot tweak.
restart ie6.
nope. my attempt to restore home age failed. ie still goes to the ms ie6/7 redirect.

winxp home sp2, patched.

Hi. I had a problem with my homepage locking about a week or so ago after a
reinstall of the system. I went through all kinds of contortions to figure
it out, but, when I uninstalled Zone Alarm, the problem disappeared. If you
have Zone Alarm, give that a try.

If you uninstall Zone Alarm make sure to turn on the Windows Firewall. If
you were connected to the Internet for any time without a firewall run a
thorough virus check.
