Hi,
Having Windows XP SP2 with IE6 SP2, when i access some certain
websites, browser crashes with the error:

For example when i click on this link i get the error:
http://193.95.171.83/SRVS/CGI-BIN/W...lish_add,VARSET=CategoryID:213,VARSET=mcn:MP3
Players,VARSET=catfaq:CATFAQ_213,usetemplate=product.tem,VARSET=ws:http://
us.creative.com/

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting
module mshtml.dll, version 6.0.2900.2180, fault address 0x000d82b2.

I have IE6 SP2 came with XP SP2 and mshtml version is 6.0.2900.2180.

My Hijackthis Log File seems clean:
http://www.hijackthis.de/logfiles/087146b5b82c948e452dd76d8dec4bea.html
(I know the question marked IP addresses and processes with having no
harm)

Is there a hotfix that i should download and install?

Thanks!

Is the machine fully patched at Windows Update and is Automatic Updates

HijackThis log analysis sites such as hijackthis.de are not reliable and
only begin to scratch the surface (e.g., that site doesn't alert the user to
the fact that there isn't an active anti-virus application installed). Even
then, some hijackware isn't seen in the first log, especially using that
outdated v1.99.1. Most crashes involving MSHTML.DLL are caused by
hijackware and/or Trojans/viruses.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStore) computer repair shop.

Thanks for response but your answer is too general to point the exact
problem. The crash does not happen always. Yes also browsing mp3
players knowledge base link may cause this error. Never had this
problem on certain sites.
I use hijackthis de to see general view of log then analyze with the
help of web. The computer is old and has a few memory for running XP -
do not ask the amount :)

PS: Unrelated to this thread, mshtml.dll crash may happen ALTHOUGH you
do not have a malware, corrupted system files and improper system
shutdown (an electricity cut off) caused that kind of problems in the
past.

Sorry, but I am compelled to ask... what does Auto Update have to do with
the price of tea in China (or this issue) ??

Some of the information that you snipped (perhaps because of Robear's signature placement
though your version of OE does not support that feature):

This shows that the OP has no updates to XPsp2 applied (as far as IE goes).

Sorry but it's not a malware issue, it behaved with same error on a
DIFFERENT malware-free computer which is running on IE6 SP2 with XP
SP2.

Haven't had error with Firefox.

Please reply to *my* post, kimiraikkonen. That being said, is the other
machine also not fully patched at Windows Update?

Please reply to *my* post, kimiraikkonen.  That being said, is the other
machine also not fully patched at Windows Update?

PA Bear, Could you please inform *which* specific hotfix do i have to
download and install?
Please post the exact link of the hotfix that solves all of mshtml.dll
(also others would be fine).

I do not want to download all the updates which are unrelated to this
problem.
So, if you know the exact and the latest hotfix for mshtml.dll or all-
in-one IE6 fix package it would be better.

It's certainly an incompatibility between some sites and IE 6 not with
the machine itself.

Ah.... Firefox could possibly BE your error.

David,
I don't think so. IE crashes more frequently than Firefox. Maybe you
should try not to get that kind of stupid errors.

PA Bear,
BTW, you've posted wrong Hijackthis version. In your previous post,
it's said that 2.0.2 is the recommended version, but the link you gave
contains 1.99. And checked with Hijackthis 2.0.2 (downloaded from a
correct mirror) and SpyBot S&D, both gave clean results.

You may still want to think it's about malware, i strongly disagree.
No need to extend the topic on that issue.

PS: Please do not suggest me automatic updates, there are a lot of
occasions that went bad after automatic updates also confirmed by a
lot of user(see forums and XP newsgroups), the biggest example of this
is XP and IE6 SP2 (no need to discuss the details, you'll experience
the harmful effects of automatic updates evantually.) That's why a
issue-specific hotfix must be released as downloadable.

Also, i don't understand why you force using Outlook Express, but
Google Web-access isn't too bad for newsgroups. It's up to you to
reply, it doesn't matter.

None of these help, but thanks anyway.

David, I don't think so.

You're possibly right... but it's a rare day that IE will ever work 100%
correctly again after installing and using a third party browser along
with any plugins that may be foisted into the picture as a result.

Of course... that's just my .02 centses worth.

It's just an item for consideration.... a lot of registry gets changed
with a new browser that's bent on displacing IE.

I want to note that the same stupid errors of IE are occured on some
PCs when IE is alone on its XP, staying without Firefox.

We were discussing a single hmtl error.

If you have other issues, create a new thread.

Cheers,

Cheers,

See your previous post, that's why i needed to reply. I wasn't the one
who talked about plug-ins and registr entries. Though no help with
that error also.
