I was happy w/IE6, downloaded IE7 what a horror (unable to access any web
sites)!
uninstalled,re-installed (no change), uninstalled again! Now IE6 wouldn't
work (unable to access any websites). I did a system recovery from 9/30 (18
updates ago), all is fine, except. 2 questions; 1.) does IE ver
6.0.2900.2180 include IE 6 SP1? If not, which one does?
2.) how do I rid my XP (Sm Bus.) Dell Dimension 4550 of leftover traces of
IE7 preventing me from running IE6 SP1? NOTE It downloaded fine, just can't
run it
"HIGHER VERSION OF IE WOULD NOT ALLOW IE6"
NOTE- I checked the programs/display updates checked, IE7 not there (but
then neither IE6...I'm just happy to be up & running again...Any advice
appreciated, thanks in advance!

Good info thanks! I guess I can uninstall ie6setup.exe or do I delete?

You have a higher version of IE6 than SP1.
6.00.2900.2180 = Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP SP2

Why do you want to do anything with ie6setup.exe?
It seems rather unnecessary to have, though I don't understand what
you mean by "uninstall" when you haven't installed it.

Yes, if only downloaded, then you can delete ie6setup.exe
As you couldn't run it, then you cannot uninstall what has not been
installed, so b) is not relevant.

I downloaded 1e6setup.exe (but didn't run it) because I thought IE-SP1 was a
patch for IE6, not a patch for XP-SP1. Based on your info (and my PC's
performance) I agree I misinterpreted it's purpose and do not need it. It is
however downloaded to a folder where I have to a.) delete it or b.) uninstall
it. My assumption is I can delete it if it's only downloaded, but must
uninstall it if it's been run. Is my assumption correct?
