Hi Darryl
I went through and made sure I did everything correctly in your mail -
still
no joy as you say - - - So I did two things (not trying to address this
issue) and now the problem has resolved. I upgraded zonealarm to the
latest
rev which ran a spy ware check (caught 13 items that counter spy didn't)
and
remove google search bar.
The google bar had been installed and working fine for over a year.
Any thoughts?
I am very glad to hear that you have resolved the issue. Good job!
As for the Google toolbar.. Both the Google and Yahoo toolbars have been
known to cause various problems even with fresh installs. If you check
through the many threads in this newsgroup, you will see a good number of
various problems have been solved simply by disabling or uninstalling the
Google toolbar. Having had it on your system for some time, and I would
imagine installing Windows and other updates along the way (or so I hope),
changes take place with files that could have caused the current version of
Google toolbar to no loger function as it should.
If you want to try the Google toolbar again, go get a fresh install. If the
probelm returns, then just uninstall it, as there is evidently something
that has changed on your system that will not longer allow it to run without
cause the problem.
It is a good ROT (Rule of Thumb) to keep your machine free of all types of
warez by running the spyware/adware/hijacker and AV programs at least once a
week. No matter how secure you think your machine is, there will always be
some types of scumware that you will pick up from the Internet. It is just
the nature of the beast, and even browsers such as Netscape, FireFox and
others are now finding they are no longer immune to some types of garbage
out there. So, your best defense outside of keeping 'shields up" so to
speak, is to keep your machine clean. As you have seen, it does not take
much in order for your machine to become dysfunctional. The most reliable
programs are free, and as follows:
AdAware SE - Update immediately after installing, run in Safe Mode with
Hidden Files enabled:

SpywareBlaster - Update immediately after installing. Does not need to be
run, it functions behind the scenes to protect your system.

The most important tool in your arsenal and regular maintenance regimen is

There are a bazillion different programs out there, a good many of them paid
for, but, that does not mean they are any better at what they do, and you
are bascially paying for support, not better detection or removal. These
free tools are among the the most highly reputable programs for detection
AND removal. While you can of course make your own selections, these are the
ones that I and most other MVPs who work with scumware removal usually
recommend because they simple, easy on your system, and do an excellent job.
Now....aren't you sorry you asked me if I had any thoughts?

Thank you very much for posting back and letting us know what worked for
you, and for the benefit of other readers who might have a similar problem.

Hi Darryl
Try the following and see if it helps:
Download and install the Windows script engine 5.6 here:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/scriptdb.htm
or refresh your script engine here
For 2000 and XP go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en
The install includes a new jscript.dl
If still no joy...
Exit all programs that are running.
Click Start>Run>then copy and paste the following command into the window
regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll, and then click OK or hit enter.
You should see "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded", click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, then register all the following
commands by cut and pasting them one at a time into the window the same
as
you did the regsvr32 /I urlmon.dll above, hitting enter and then Ok after
each one.
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll
Hope this helps.

How to make a good newsgroup post:
http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm
I'm having a problem with IE6 SP1. If I go to MSN.COM and click on the
headline links (Like the one today about Michelle Kwan) and the page:
a) takes a long time to load, then
b) totally freezes.
Most other sites external to msn don't exhibit this behavior.
Background:
1. Sun java is not loaded on this machine.
2. OS is Win2K SP4
3. Problem started today as best I can tell
4. What I've done (just for "fun" I rebooted after each change):
a. deleted temp files - no change
b. created a new ID and tried the same page - same freeze occurs
c. turned off virus and firewall temporarily - same freeze
d. set ie security to medium - same freeze occurs
e. checked HOSTS file - empty except for local host entry
5. I have a laptop set up virtually identical as far as W2K & IE are
concerned - - no problem of freezing
Has anybody had this experience and/or have any advice??
Thanks
