IE6 slowly nibbles away resources

I start browsing with sufficient resources (System, User, GDI). As I
browse, opening and closing web pages with IE6, my resources slowing
decline. Eventually I can have one web page open with all 3 resources
in single digits. At this point, opening another browser window freezes
my screen. The only way I have found to recover these resource is to go
offline and reboot. Is there anyway I can release/recover these
resources as I browse? OS = WinME; RAM = 1GB; HDD = 20+ GB unused.

You have a high RAM count there - have you got the MafFileCache tweak in
place??

Open System.ini and look under the [vcache] header - there should be a line
saying
MaxFileCache=512000
(or any number below 524288)
what else is in that section??
If the above line doesn't exist, add it in, and see if that helps.

My system.ini shows:

[vcache]
MaxFileCache=65290
MinFileCache=65290
Chunksize=512
No added salt:):):)

Do I need to change the numbers?

Desperately!!!

make it read like this (that way you can revert it quickly at need
[vcache]
MaxFileCache=512000
;MinFileCache=65290
;Chunksize=512

(note the semi-colons at the start of the last two lines)

This looks like you've been using some kind of 'Memory Optimiser' on your
PC - if so, which POS was it?
You may also have other entries that would also bear looking at....

What does it mean if there is no vcache section in your system.ini file?

What did you mean by "that way you can revert it quickly at need"?

I probably did use a memory optimizer since they all seem to promise
"faster, farther, higher, ...". I did use inKline Global's PC Booster which
"optimizes all aspects of your PC, including hidden Internet Settings,
Memory, Hard Disk, CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, etc to ensure you get the most out of your
system". I suspected it was causing problems, instability, so I retired it.
Any "optimizing" it did probably still haunts me. Do you have any
suggestions?
