When I am using hotmail, looking at sites, doing work on just about anything
internet related, I receive an error and IE6 needs to shut down then I get 2
options, send error report or not send error report. I have followed the
instructions for add-ons and removed all of them (about 5 or 6) so what on
earth is happening...any clues as to why IE6 continues to fail on me often?

Hi,
Malware is a good possibility. No one program can remove all malware. Start
by downloading and running CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot. Check for
updates before running Ad-aware or Spybot.
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Also note the security tips and other important information on that page.

Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/darnit.html
What you can do about spyware and other unwanted software:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/spywarewhat.mspx

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
for analysis. Start at
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=4075 Then go to
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Work through the preliminary cleaning
steps then post a HijackThis log to the forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30

Be patient. It's a busy forum.

HijackThis logs are also analyzed at these (and other) forums. Look for the
proper forum and an "Important- Read This First" message so that you follow
proper procedure.

Hi Don,

Many thanks for your words of advice above. I too have had this problem for
a while; I cannot reach any website at all using IE6 but have no such
problems with Netscape, Opera or Firefox (all of which I have installed).
Anyway, after reading your reply, I went to the 'bug' link, downloaded the
winsockxpfix, ran it, re-booted and voila!! IE now works! So thanks very much

Hi,
Glad that you waded through all that and found a solution. ;-)
Thanks for reporting back.

Now see... i ran all the spyware/malware/cwshredder...etc.. and got
no-where...(least with the main problem of IE crashing with nothing but send
or dont send error reports) Am looking at the dates of these posts.. and
think,,.,,well,... given time something else could quirk up the
works..causing the same problem.. surely possible..".. anywaY:"... i tracked
my recent steps among a couple.. adding msn messenger w/ its own msn internet
explorer..and flashplayer 8 being another..
Un-installed each.. problem solved..
aend theaannn... wait..theres more and thean..>¿0 yeah.. Everytime i
re-install flashplayer 8..same deal.. crash crash send or dont send.. yada
yada yada.. same even now recently having yahoo-verizon dsl and its own
browzer as well.. flash player support docs say nothing about it..am runnin
and have been faithfull to win-98SE just think its the best so far.. but
considering using another browzer-operating system all together.. even tho im
spy-virus-error etc free.. no registry probs either.. Am pretty uncear as to
what the next step should be to solve this problem without using another
browzer.. and possibly not having that issue or it even needing flashplayer..

Thank you for posting your observations.

It's possible that the newer Flash player is incompatible either with your OS
or with the level of support for it that you have installed (e.g. the MSVC
runtime, etc.)

I think you're much more likely to get troubleshooting tips from a newsgroup
which specializes in your OS than here. One continual frustration I have with
your OS is its apparent paucity of diagnostics. To diagnose your crash you
really need to know why it crashed not where but where is all that you are ever
given by that OS (AFAICT).

Good luck

I have started getting a "Send Error Report" message every time I shut down
IE. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. I keep telling it to send
the report but no response form MS.

First eliminate any spyware.

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stack and you may
not be able to connect to the Internet. Before you try to remove spyware,
